Hi Bronco2
Sorry to hear of your pain & troubles with the Dr you have seen.
I haven't suffered from same condition but do suffer cronic low back pain - Sacroiliac Joint & have had 2 ops on it with little success.
I would recommend that you seek all non surgical options before going down the surgical rd.
I do understand how frustrating it is not being able to spend time with your young family, I too have same, well mine are now teenagers but I have also been suffering for more that 5 yrs.
Has there been any suggestion of you being referred to a pain specialist & or treatments such as physio or hydrotherapy?
Don't forget that you are within your rights to seek a second opinion especially if your are not comfortable with the specialist that you have been referred to. If need be seek 3rd & 4th opinions too.
Getting the right diagnosis & treatment is the no 1 priority to reclaiming your life with quality.
Also if you are beginning to suffer some depression from the debilitating pain do seek soem help from your GP. It is not a weekness to be feeling depressed when in constant pain, it is normal & can be eased with a mild antidepressant which you may only need for a short time. I know you didn't mention that but it is very common to be suffering depression with this type of injury & pain so thought I would mention it.
Back to the pain specialist, they can offer many &varied methods of pain relief & non surgical treatmetns to control the pain. This is worth investigating if you have no joy with orthopaedic or neuro specialists.
Hope something here is of some help to you.
Regards
Jules
